Yahoo! takes your security seriously and takes reasonable steps to protect your information. Please see our Security Center for additional information on how to reduce your security risk when online. Yahoo! continues to evaluate and implement enhancements in security technology and practices, however we can only take steps to help reduce the risks of unauthorized access. Each individual using the Internet can take steps to help protect their information and further minimize the likelihood that a security incident may occur. We describe some of those measures and provide links to information that may be helpful in these pages and within our Security Center.
Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
Yahoo! uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption when transmitting certain kinds of information, such as payment information. An icon resembling a padlock (or key) is displayed on the bottom of most browsers window during SSL transactions that involve credit cards and other forms of payment. Any time Wrench Wear asks you for a credit card number for payment it will be SSL encrypted. The information you provide will not be displayed back to you in its entirety when you retrieve or edit it in the future. Instead of the entire number, you will only see asterisks and either the first four digits or the last four digits of your number.
Our Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Every transaction you make will be 100% safe. The servers we use feature the most advanced encryption technology to safeguard your personal information.
If your credit card information were to ever be stolen while online you are protected. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank can't hold you liable for more than $50 of fraudulent charges and this is often waived. In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
Protecting Yourself
If you use a security-enabled browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer version 2.1 or greater, or Netscape Navigator version 2.0 or greater) pay attention to the following two browser features:
1. Browser Security Settings
Your browser security preference settings are your first line of defense to stopping the theft or unwanted viewing of confidential, personal information. Check the settings of your browser security features to see all the checks that are possible and those that are currently in place.
2. Browser Security Signals
The presence of security measures on a web page is identified in several ways for you on your browser:
- The URL identifying the page will always begin with "https://" versus the normal "http://".
- A security symbol to indicate operation in a mode that supports secure transmissions. A "closed lock" icon is present in the bottom right-hand corner of your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser screen. An "unbroken key" icon appears in the lower left-hand corner of the Netscape Navigator browser screen.
